Building Global Acute Care Research Capacity | Kigali, Rwanda | October 2025

InFACT, ISARIC and CIIC-HIN are convening a meeting titled “Building Global Acute Care Research Capacity” in Kigali, Rwanda in October 2025.

Meeting Schedule:

  • October 5: Select full-day pre-meeting events (more information to come)

  • October 6-8: Main meeting

  • October 9: Post-meeting hybrid session led by the World Health Organization, open to members of the Global Optimization of Respiratory Support. For more information, see Global O2ptimization of respiratory support collaboration and sign up. Details to be confirmed.

The Kigali meeting builds on two previous international meetings—in Toronto in 2023 on the lessons of COVID-19 for global acute care research, and in Dublin in 2024 on the federation of platform trials to enhance international collaboration. Through this meeting, we will explore opportunities to build and expand acute care research capacity in low and middle income countries (LMICs), and forge partnerships between attendees and established trials groups, research networks, initiatives and platform trials.

The meeting will bring together approximately 100 researchers from around the world. Over three days, it will include presentations, panel discussions, breakout groups, and workshops. Our overarching goal is to build equitable acute care research capacity in LMICs by strengthening local capacity, supporting the growth of local research networks, and building sustainable collaborations with established research networks.

The meeting is by invitation only. For more information, contact Megan.Acton@unityhealth.to.

Global Coordination, Federation and Support of Platform Trials Workshop | Dublin | September 2024

On September 16–17, 2024, InFACT, ISARIC, and ICC-CTN convened a global workshop bringing together leaders of large platform trials in acute care, investigator-led trial groups and networks, public and patient representatives, and funders. The goal: to explore the principles, challenges, and future of platform trials—focusing on their coordination, collaboration, governance, and funding in acute care research.

Our shared vision is a world where patient outcomes are continuously improved through global research collaboration within a learning health system.

Our mission is to build a collaborative, equitable and efficient global research ecosystem based on maximizing innovation amongst federated platform and other clinical trials in acute care and health emergencies.
