United States

The United States critical care community is engaged in a number of important H1N1 initiatives, including:

  • Many ARDS Network (ARDSnet) centers are contributing to an H1N1 respiratory failure registry that is harmonized with InFACT
  • The Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) is partnering with the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group (CCCTG) and the ARDSnet to describe pediatric H1N1-related critical illness.
  • The United  States Critical Illness and Injury Trials Group is working with NIAID (NIH) to enroll hospitalized patients with H1N1 at risk for organ failure.

For U.S. centers that are not already engaged in one of these registries, ARDSNet, the USCIIT Group, the American Thoracic Society (ATS), and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) endorse contributing to the InFACT global H1N1 database, ensuring that local, state and national research ethics and data sharing agreements are upheld.
